When you're having trouble sleeping at night, there are natural remedies that will help you break the cycle and allow you to get a full-nights rest. At times it may seem that you'll never be able to get back into a normal sleeping pattern and that you'll just have to adjust to the little or poor rest that you get, but your body just can't properly function or live that way.
Having sleep problems puts a tremendous toll on your body. While the onset of the problem could be stress related, not getting enough rest can cause even more anxiety. You may notice that you have a short temper, become overwhelmed easily, and have an inability to cope with things that would ordinarily not bother you.
These things cause your body to quickly age, can cause increase in blood pressure and heart problems. But beyond that, depriving yourself from rest can impede your ability to think clearly or make decisions, and effect your day-to-day life.
One way to quickly tell if you are sleep deprived is to ask yourself how hard it is to get up in the morning. If you find yourself hitting the alarm clock over and over, then your body is not getting the proper rest it needs. On the other hand, if you find yourself getting out of bed extra-early in the morning because your mind will not rest and there's no sense in just laying in bed, that is a sign of major sleep deprivation.
An easy way to cure this is to first allow your mind to rest. Reading is good, or even a warm shower 30 minutes before you go to bed. But some of us are too busy or have children that don't allow us to unwind.
Another method is to use a supplement that includes Melatonin. This is not to be confused with sleeping pills that knock you out and don't actually allow you to get the rest you need. Melatonin is a natural chemical your brain releases when it rests. By taking Melatonin 20 minutes before you go to bed, you can allow your body to rest, sleep soundly and feel rejuvenated when you wake up after a full-nights rest.
